Congress Calls for Public Trust in the Royal Government

The National Assembly-Senate Congress has called on Cambodians, both at home and abroad, to stand united and place their trust in the Royal Government. The Congress urged national solidarity to reinforce the country’s defence and counter the political agenda of extremist groups exploiting border issues for their own gain.

In a statement released on June 2, 2025, the National Assembly and Senate expressed strong appreciation for the Royal Government’s efforts to safeguard Cambodia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity by using diplomatic channels, negotiations, regional mechanisms, the United Nations, international courts and the exercise of the right of self-defence.

“The Royal Government of Cambodia continues to act with strong will and unwavering determination to preserve peace, stability, and the nation’s core interests—an invaluable legacy of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen over the past 40 years,” the statement read.

The Congress condemned the recent illegal attack by Thai troops on Cambodian soldiers in the Mom Bei area, located within Cambodian territory. It described the incident, which occurred on the morning of May 28, as a serious violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In response, the Congress unanimously supported the Royal Government’s decision to bring the longstanding disputes over the Temples of Ta Moan Thom, Ta Moan Tauch and Ta Krabey, and the Mom Bei area before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). All 182 members present voted in favor of the motion on June 2, 2025.

The Congress also voiced full support for Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet’s statement: “We must put out the fire rather than sit and blow smoke.”

At the same time, the Congress emphasised the importance of maintaining normal and peaceful relations between Cambodia and Thailand, and avoiding any actions that could escalate hostilities. It encouraged the Royal Government to continue leveraging existing bilateral mechanisms—such as the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) and the General Border Commission (GBC)—to promote a border of peace, cooperation, and mutual development.

Additionally, the Congress expressed gratitude to the Cambodian army, national police, and other forces who are protecting the country’s borders. It also encouraged public participation in national defence efforts through voluntary support, which encourages the armed forces to fulfill their duty of safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
