Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Hon. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on July 29 in Geneva, Switzerland, while both leaders were attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
During the meeting, Chairman Tran Thanh Man extended his warm congratulations to Cambodia on the recent declaration of a ceasefire in the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute.
He praised the move toward a peaceful resolution through comprehensive negotiations and expressed Vietnam’s continued support for the agreed ceasefire as a close and longstanding neighbour.
The two leaders strongly reaffirmed the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability of relations between Cambodia and Vietnam.
They also expressed appreciation for the consistent mutual support in all circumstances, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
The historical foundation of this friendship was highlighted, with Cambodia recognising Vietnam’s role in helping liberate the country from the Pol Pot regime in 1979, and Vietnam acknowledging Cambodia’s support during its struggle for national independence and unification five decades ago.
Samdech Khuon Sudary and Chairman Tran Thanh Man pledged to continue working closely to effectively implement the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two National Assemblies.
They emphasised the importance of deepening cooperation through active exchanges among young parliamentarians, parliamentary friendship groups, commissions, and the Secretariats-General of both legislatures, while also fostering stronger ties at the leadership level.
The two sides also exchanged views on political, social, and economic developments and reiterated their shared commitment to enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation for the benefit of their respective peoples and the wider region.
