Senate President Commends Austrian Ambassador for Advancing Bilateral Cooperation


President of the Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, this morning received a farewell visit from H.E. Wehelm Maximilian Donko, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Cambodia, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.

According to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith, the meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Ambassador and his delegation, acknowledging the significant contributions he made during his diplomatic mission in Cambodia. He emphasised that the Ambassador’s efforts had meaningfully strengthened Cambodia–Austria relations.

For his part, H.E. Wehelm Maximilian Donko highlighted the strong and growing bilateral ties between the two nations. He noted Cambodia’s remarkable development in recent years, including the rapid growth of modern infrastructure and high-rise buildings. He also underscored Austria’s cooperation with Cambodia in areas such as demining and support for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).

The Ambassador expressed hope that bilateral trade would continue to expand, adding that Austrian investors plan to visit Cambodia next month to explore new investment opportunities.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Austria for its continued support in key sectors, particularly demining and judicial cooperation, and encouraged further enhancement of economic, trade, and investment relations. He also expressed interest in deepening political cooperation, especially between the two countries’ foreign ministries.
