Cambodia’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, held high-level discussions with a delegation from the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) on Tuesday to advance digital development and expand commercial ties between the Kingdom and American corporations.
The meeting, held on Dec. 2 afternoon, saw the Minister welcome a U.S.-ABC delegation led by Mr. Jack Myint, Regional Director for Mainland Southeast Asia, alongside Ms. Bridgette Walker, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, and representatives from 12 major U.S. companies.
Minister Chea Vandeth used the platform to outline the Ministry’s strategic vision for Cambodia’s digital technology sector.
He underscored human resource development as a pivotal element of this strategy. The Minister also updated the delegation on the nation’s progress in bolstering digital trust, specifically citing recent advancements in cybersecurity and personal data protection legislation.
Mr. Jack Myint highlighted a significant milestone in bilateral relations, formally introducing the U.S.-ABC’s newly appointed executive strategic adviser based in Cambodia. This appointment marks the first time in the council’s four-decade history that it has stationed a permanent representative in the country, signaling a deepened commitment to the Cambodian market.
Minister Vandeth welcomed and congratulated the new strategic adviser on assuming the role, expressing full support for the new mission.
Both sides concluded the talks by reaffirming their commitment to closer cooperation. They noted that the recent signing of a tax agreement between Cambodia and the U.S. is expected to be a key facilitator in boosting stronger trade and investment flows between the two nations.
