Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Dignity and Empowerment for Landmine Survivors

Senior Minister H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch, First Vice-President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), has emphasised that supporting landmine survivors must extend beyond material aid to encompass dignity, opportunity, and hope.

The Senior Minister made the remarks during a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CMAA and Humanity & Inclusion (HI) on Thursday afternoon. The partnership focuses on victim assistance and mine action initiatives across the Kingdom.

H.E. Dr. Ly Thuch noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia is intensifying efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW). He reaffirmed the Royal Government’s pledge that no citizen will be left behind or neglected. Through this steadfast resolve, Cambodia has transitioned from a country severely impacted by ordnance to a global leader in humanitarian mine action.

Representing the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Senior Minister expressed his gratitude to HI for its long-standing partnership, which began during Cambodia’s most challenging periods of contamination. He praised the organisation’s continued dedication to supporting persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups through rehabilitation services, social inclusion programmes, and community-based support.

The newly signed MoU reflects a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in humanitarian mine action and victim assistance while fostering technical exchange and knowledge sharing to further the nation’s recovery goals.
