Samdech Men Sam An Reaffirms Enduring Cambodia-Vietnam Ties and Future Cooperation

Cambodia and Vietnam share an “indivisible” friendship that will continue to strengthen based on mutual support and solidarity under all circumstances, Samdech Kittisangahapundit Men Sam An said.

The President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland, made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with H.E. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, at the Party’s Central Headquarters in Hanoi on the afternoon of Mar. 23.

Samdech Men Sam An stressed that despite increasingly complex and uncertain regional and global dynamics, the two neighbouring countries remain firmly bound by a longstanding partnership rooted in trust, cooperation, and shared interests in peace, stability, and prosperity.

She underscored that this enduring relationship is clearly reflected in three key dimensions—historical ties, economic cooperation, and socio-cultural connections.

On the historical front, Samdech recalled the longstanding mutual support between the two nations during times of hardship. Cambodia had supported Vietnam in its struggle for national reunification and independence in the 1960s and 1970s, while Vietnam provided timely and crucial assistance—both politically and materially, including volunteer forces—in helping liberate Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970s.

Economically, as close neighbours, Cambodia and Vietnam have consistently supported each other’s national development and achievements. Both sides continue to complement one another to boost bilateral trade and contribute to regional economic integration, with a shared commitment to increasing two-way trade to US$20 billion in the future.

Samdech also commended Vietnam’s success in socio-economic reforms and development, noting its emergence as a key economic force in the region.

In terms of socio-cultural ties, she highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges, shared traditions, and people-to-people connections as a strong foundation for long-term friendship. These interactions help foster trust, mutual understanding, and deeper cooperation, particularly among younger generations.

Samdech Men Sam An added that the younger generation of leaders deeply appreciates the legacy of sacrifice and solidarity built by previous generations and remains committed to further strengthening traditional friendship, unity, and comprehensive cooperation.

She reaffirmed that continued collaboration between Cambodia and Vietnam will deliver tangible benefits and sustain win-win outcomes for both nations and their peoples.
