The newly appointed Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Cambodia, H.E. Sonexay Vannaxay, has reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening and deepening the longstanding relations between Cambodia and Laos.
The pledge was made during a courtesy call and the presentation of credentials to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, at the Senate’s Solidarity Palace on Mar. 24, according to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith.
During the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed the Lao ambassador and congratulated him on his appointment, noting that his prompt arrival in Cambodia reflects the high importance Laos places on bilateral ties.
H.E. Sonexay Vannaxay highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between the two countries. He described Cambodia and Laos as comprehensive strategic partners with a long-standing tradition of mutual support and close friendship.
The ambassador also noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos, reaffirming his determination to further promote and enhance cooperation during his tenure.
He expressed appreciation to the Royal Government and people of Cambodia for their continued support to Laos, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Cambodia provided vaccines and technical assistance.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with the ambassador’s remarks, underscoring the deep-rooted and close ties between the two nations. He reaffirmed that Cambodia and Laos share a long history of strong and sincere friendship.
Samdech Techo also encouraged both countries to further expand cooperation, particularly in trade, economy, and investment, as key pillars to strengthen political and diplomatic relations.
