The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and Mastercard have discussed expanding the use of Cambodia’s digital payment services among international visitors, with a focus on the Bakong Tourists application and stronger measures to prevent payment fraud.
NBC Governor H.E. Dr. Chea Serey held here on Sept. 22 a working discussion with Mastercard’s senior management team, led by Mr. Donald Ong, Division President for Mastercard’s East Southeast Asia division.
The meeting highlighted progress in Cambodia’s payment system development, particularly the expansion of the Bakong Tourists payment application to international users.
The initiative is aimed at making digital payments more convenient for international visitors travelling in Cambodia, as the country continues to develop its digital payment ecosystem.
The NBC Governor and Mr. Ong also exchanged views on strengthening the security of digital payment systems as the use of digital transactions continues to expand.
Their discussions covered fraud monitoring and prevention mechanisms, as well as risk mitigation strategies designed to strengthen the safety of digital payments and enhance public confidence in the system.
During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey highlighted the upcoming Black Swan Summit, which will be held alongside the Francophonie Summit in November, as an opportunity to showcase Cambodia’s digital payment achievements to international guests.
The side event will provide a platform to share experiences and demonstrate innovations in Cambodia’s digital payment systems, while giving international visitors an opportunity to experience the services firsthand.
