PM Hun Manet Calls for Stronger Action to Ensure Adequate Nutrition for All Cambodians by 2030

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has called on all relevant stakeholders to step up their interventions to ensure that every Cambodian has access to adequate and safe nutrition and is protected from all forms of malnutrition by 2030.

The call was made in his congratulatory message on the occasion of the 13th National Nutrition Day (Nov. 6), held under the theme “Investing in Nutrition Is Investing in People”.

Samdech Thipadei emphasised that investment in nutrition is an effective foundation for promoting healthy growth and development, contributing significantly to improved learning outcomes, increased labour productivity, poverty reduction and sustainable socio-economic development.

Over the past two decades, the Royal Government’s efforts have brought considerable improvements in Cambodia’s nutritional situation. The prevalence of stunting among children under five has declined from 50 percent to 22 percent, wasting from 17 percent to 9.6 percent, and underweight from 39 percent to 16 percent.

Nevertheless, the Royal Government of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly has continued to implement the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1, placing human capital development as its highest priority.

This is being pursued through expanding universal healthcare services and strengthening food systems, healthcare, social protection, clean water and sanitation to effectively address the remaining challenges, the Prime Minister noted.
