The 75th anniversary of The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) will be celebrated in Cambodia in 2025.
The initiative to observe the event in Cambodia was supported by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at the Conferment Ceremony of Honorary Title “Patron” of The WFB and “Honorary Doctorate in Humanities” from the Universitas Negeri Padang of Indonesia to the Cambodian Premier, and the Title of “Senior Advisor” to the WFB to H.E. Gen. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and President of Samdech Techo Volunteer Youth Doctor Association (TYDA), held at Wat Phnom Cultural and Historical Site in Phnom Penh this morning.
According to its website, The World Fellowship of Buddhists is an international Buddhist organisation established since 1950 in Sri Lanka by the initiation of Dr. Gunapala Piyasena Malalasekera, a famous Sri Lankan Pali scholar, who inspired a Buddhist meeting leading to the founding of a world organisation.
Buddhist delegates from Asia, Europe and North America (including Hawaii) agreed to participate in a conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Apart from Sri Lankan participants, there were 129 Buddhist delegates from 27 countries.
At this historic meeting, the World Fellowship of Buddhists was founded. It marked the first event in Buddhist history when Buddhists (laity and sangha) of nearly all sects in the world represented and gathering for the same purpose for the progress of Buddhism.
