Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s Visit to Indonesia and Timor-Leste to Enhance Cambodia’s Parliamentary Diplomacy


The upcoming visit of the President of the Cambodian Senate to the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste reflects Cambodia’s strong commitment to advancing parliamentary diplomacy, aiming to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations, contributing to peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

This was highlighted in a press release issued by the General Secretariat of the Senate on Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen’s visit to the two ASEAN nations.

According to the statement, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will visit Indonesia from May 5 to 7, followed by an official visit to Timor-Leste from May 7 to 9, at the invitation of H.E. José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste.

During his three-day stay in Indonesia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will hold separate meetings with key Indonesian leaders, including H.E. Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia; H.E. Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, Speaker of the Regional Representatives Council (Senate); and H.E. Ms. Puan Maharani, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He will also visit the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, where he will meet with the ASEAN Secretary-General, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN, and the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to ASEAN. As part of the visit, he will deliver a special lecture titled “Cambodia and ASEAN, ASEAN and the World”, commemorating the 26th anniversary of Cambodia’s accession to ASEAN. In addition, he will give a lecture on “Views and Experience in Building Peace in Cambodia” at the ERIA School of Government.

In Timor-Leste, the Senate President will meet separately with H.E. President José Ramos-Horta, H.E. Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and H.E. Ms. Maria Fernanda Lay, Speaker of the National Parliament.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen is scheduled to address a special session of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste and deliver a lecture titled “Hun Sen’s Lessons: From Genocide and Poverty toward Freedom and Prosperity” at the Presidential Palace. The event will be attended by members of parliament, government officials, diplomats, students, and representatives of civil society.

In recognition of his significant contributions in supporting Timor-Leste over the past two decades, particularly its journey toward ASEAN membership, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will be awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the country’s highest honour.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen will be accompanied by H.E. Ouch Borith, First Vice President of the Senate, members of the Senate and National Assembly, and other senior legislative leaders, as well as officials from various ministries and institutions.
