H.E. Pen Kosal, Head of Thbong Khmum Provincial Red Cross Branch, on Wednesday led a delegation to inspect the living conditions of families displaced by recent Mekong River flooding.
The working group assessed the situation of 866 families who were required to evacuate their homes. The affected residents include 446 families from Prek Tauch village in Chiro 1 commune and 420 families from Prek Tauch village in Tonle Bet commune. These families have been temporarily relocated to the Oknha An Marady and Oknha Von Bunthay Safe Ground.
During the visit, H.E. Pen Kosal who is also governor of the province, reviewed the temporary settlement and directed the Red Cross team to coordinate with local departments to establish critical services. Plans are underway to install a water supply system, solar streetlights, and a health post to meet the immediate needs of the community.
H.E. Pen Kosal further issued a safety warning to the residents, urging them to be vigilant against dangerous animals and to closely supervise their children to prevent them from playing in the floodwaters. He emphasised that these precautions are essential to avoid accidents and ensure the safety of the community.
