Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, has extended his congratulations on the successful convening of the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), held on Aug. 7, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Malaysia, the United States, and the People’s Republic of China as observers.
In a social media post this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei noted that the meeting was in line with a key point agreed upon between him and H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, during the Special Meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025. That meeting was co-hosted by Malaysia and the United States, with the active participation of China.
According to Samdech Thipadei, both Cambodian and Thai delegations discussed and reached agreements on the ceasefire arrangement and enhancement of communication between the two armed forces.
They also agreed to advance the development of the terms of reference for the ASEAN Observer Team’s ceasefire monitoring mechanism; establishing an Interim Observer Team, led by the Malaysian military attaché, to begin monitoring efforts immediately while preparations for the full ASEAN Observer Team continue.
Additionally, the two sides agreed to convene a joint Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting within two weeks; and a Cambodia–Thailand GBC meeting within one month following this extraordinary session; organize further extraordinary GBC meetings in this format if necessary.
During the meeting, Cambodia also called for the immediate release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers currently held in Thai military custody.
