A Cambodian delegation led by H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, held separate meetings on Sept. 24 with H.E. Hideaki Ōmura, Governor of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, and Mr. Hirosawa Ichiro, Mayor of Nagoya City, to discuss new opportunities for tourism cooperation.
The discussions focused on strengthening ties between Cambodia and Japan, particularly with Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, by exploring joint initiatives to promote tourism.
Both sides highlighted their shared potential, including world heritage sites, rich cultural traditions, and longstanding diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan, which span over 72 years and were recently elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This strong foundation, they agreed, provides momentum for expanding cooperation in the tourism sector.
Key areas of collaboration include promoting both destinations to broader international audiences, considering the organisation of joint tourism promotion events, and exploring possibilities for direct flights to facilitate visitor growth.
The Cambodian delegation, composed of senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and representatives from the private sector, is currently on a working visit to Japan to attend the Tourism Japan EXPO 2025, the Ministerial Roundtable Meeting, and other related events from Sept. 24 to 26.
