The Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia has firmly rejected recent reports from the Royal Thai Army and some Thai media outlets accusing Cambodian forces of provoking disturbances near Thailand’s Army Area 2.
H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry, clarified that the allegations — which mentioned sounds of gunfire, explosions, and movement near the barbed wire area — were unfounded. She underlined that Cambodian forces neither initiated provocations nor engaged in any actions that violated the ceasefire agreement.
According to the confirmation by the Cambodian forces positioned at the frontline, the following incidents were reported as follows:
• At 2:57 AM on Sept. 25, 2025, one shot of gunfire was heard from the Thai side.
• At 5:00 AM, another shot of gunfire was heard from the Thai side.
• At 6:00 AM, a shot of gunfire was heard from the Thai side.
• At 7:00 AM, a shot of gunfire was heard from the Thai side.
In this sense, she added, the Cambodian armed forces reiterate its commitment to fully respecting and implementing the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, with firm and resolute determination, in line with the strong commitment to cooperation at all levels.
The spokeswoman further highlighted the active role of Cambodia-Thailand communication teams at the frontline in fostering good communication through regular exchanges of information and clarifications to prevent unnecessary tensions.
