Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, received at the NA Palace this morning a visiting delegation of the Parliamentary Federation for World Peace (PFWP) Malaysia, led by its Chairman H.E. Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Hatta Bin Md Ramli, a Malaysian Senator.
Samdech Khuon Sudary warmly welcomed the delegation and recalled the recent meeting during the AIPA General Assembly. She also congratulated the Malaysian Parliament for successfully hosting the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) last month, which advanced peace, stability, and prosperity in ASEAN.
Samdech underlined that the long-standing friendship between Cambodia and Malaysia is deep and close within the ASEAN framework. She recalled that Malaysia deployed 1,000 personnel to the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) to peacebuilding in Cambodia.
Samdech Khuon Sudary praised Malaysia’s socio-economic progress and international role. She described Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as a “symbol of peace” for facilitating the ceasefire, while recognising Malaysia’s role in supporting observers to monitor the ceasefire. She stressed that Cambodia needs peace and values peace.
On the border issue, she affirmed that Cambodia relies on the internationally recognised Siamese–Franco map of 1904–1907 and the 2000 and 2001 MOUs between Cambodia and Thailand. Thailand continues to use a unilateral map drawn by itself.
She emphasised that Cambodia actively participates in regional and international peace initiatives.
“We have no intention of expanding this conflict into war. War brings nothing to humanity except the loss of property, the sacrifice of human lives, and the destruction of what has been built,” she said. War cannot end war. Only negotiation can lead to solution.
For his part, H.E. Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Hatta Bin Md Ramli expressed gratitude to Samdech Khuon Sudary for her warm reception and the opportunity to exchange views. He reported on the delegation’s positive meetings with Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister, which he said had provided the delegation with a clearer understanding of the Cambodia–Thailand border issue.
The head of the Malaysian delegation praised Cambodia’s firm will and active engagement in promoting peace. He commended Cambodia’s leadership and resilience, and voiced hope that future visits would witness even greater achievements.
He further emphasised ASEAN’s central role in maintaining peace and stability, stressing that internal unity is fundamental.
