Over 1,000 Fake News Cases Recorded in Third Quarter 2025

The Anti-Fake News Commission of the Ministry of Information has identified and recorded in total 1,053 cases of fake news as of the third quarter of 2025, of which 857 cases were related to the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.

Most of these cases were reportedly generated by extremists and through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), said H.E. Tep Asnarith, Under-Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information.

Speaking at a capacity-building workshop on information and public opinion in Prey Veng province, yesterday, H.E. Tep Asnarith said that fake news has negatively affected the morale of Cambodian soldiers and disrupted the technical and legal mechanisms that the Royal Government and relevant institutions are implementing to resolve border conflicts with Thailand.

H.E. Tep Asnarith noted that the Ministry has been actively working to counter fake news, especially content originating from abroad, in cooperation with Meta (Facebook) and TikTok.

“The Ministry of Information, together with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Interior, has reported such content to Meta and TikTok for violating ethical standards and platform policies,” he said.

According to the Ministry, about 30 cases of fake or unethical content were resolved in collaboration with these companies, while 155 cases were addressed through cooperation with local account owners and social media page administrators.
