Cambodia, Thailand Sign Historic Peace Deal in Kuala Lumpur

Cambodia and Thailand have officially signed a peace agreement, establishing conditions and mechanisms aimed at ensuring a conducive environment for ending the conflict and restoring relations between the two neighbouring nations.

The Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand was signed by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The signing took place under the witness of H.E. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chair of the 2025 ASEAN Summits, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Oct. 26.

“Today marks a historic moment of profound significance for Cambodia and Thailand a day that reaffirms our shared conviction that peace is always possible when nations have the courage and wisdom to pursue it together,” read a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation following the signing ceremony.

On behalf of the Cambodian people, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his deepest gratitude to President Donald J. Trump for his decisive leadership and steadfast commitment to supporting lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand, and for his tireless efforts in helping make this achievement a reality.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his sincere appreciation to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his unwavering support and facilitation throughout this peace process until its successful conclusion. He further extended appreciation to ASEAN colleagues, China, and other partners who have supported the ceasefire from the very beginning.

Cambodia reaffirms its strong commitment to fully and faithfully implementing this Joint Declaration and to continuing close cooperation with Thailand and all partners to ensure that this peace endures and brings tangible benefits to both peoples. The Prime Minister also called for the continued support and contribution of the international community and partners to ensure the fruitful realisation of the Joint Declaration.

Taking this opportunity, the Prime Minister strongly hoped for the prompt release of the 18 Cambodian soldiers on humanitarian grounds and as agreed in the Joint Declaration.

Finally, recognising President Donald J. Trump’s unwavering dedication and resolute efforts to promote peace-not only between Cambodia and Thailand but also among other nations and reflecting the gratitude of the Cambodian people, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced his nomination of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The peace deal comes three months after the armed conflict between the two countries, which occurred from July 24 to 28, 2025, resulting in the tragic loss of many soldiers and civilians on both sides.
