Senate President Hails Cambodia-Thailand Historic Peace Deal

Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has welcomed the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal freshly signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“This is the early harvest of Prime Minister Hun Manet’s strategy of being ‘quiet, but not silent,’ through the signing of the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal under the facilitation of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, and U.S. President Donald J. Trump,” Samdech Techo shared on his official social media platform this afternoon.

The former Prime Minister of Cambodia underlined that maintaining peace – both domestically and with neighbouring countries – remains Cambodia’s top priority.

The Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand was signed by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The signing took place under the witness of H.E. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chair of the 2025 ASEAN Summits, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Oct. 26.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm commitment to fully and faithfully implement the Joint Declaration and to continue close cooperation with Thailand and all partners to ensure that peace endures and delivers tangible benefits to both peoples. The Prime Minister also called for continued support and contribution from the international community and partners to ensure the effective realisation of the Joint Declaration.

U.S. President H.E. Donald J. Trump expressed appreciation for the efforts of the four leaders, stressing that, “This is a great peace deal between Cambodia and Thailand.”

For his part, Malaysian Prime Minister H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the agreement as a milestone for peace in ASEAN, reflecting the bloc’s commitment to conflict prevention, stability, and cooperation under Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability.
