Cambodia Promotes Coastal Tourism Hub with “Growth in Peace” Expo

Cambodia is ramping up efforts to transform its premier coastal province into a global multi-purpose economic zone, highlighted by the launch of a major cultural and trade exhibition over the weekend.

Minister of Tourism H.E. Huot Hak and Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor H.E. Mang Sineth officially opened the “Tourism Grows in Peace” expo on Sunday at Techo Square in Sihanoukville.

The event serves as a strategic push to revitalise the Kingdom’s “Green Gold” sector and showcase Preah Sihanouk province’s evolution from a seaside town into a sophisticated international hub.

Governor Mang Sineth detailed the Royal Government’s ambitious “Vision 2038,” which aims to rebrand Preah Sihanouk province—often called the “Rising Star of the Southwest”—as a multi-purpose Model Special Economic Zone. The master plan envisions the province as: A global “Smart City” and green development pole; A premier world-class beach resort; An international financial and logistics centre linked to ASEAN and global markets.

To coincide with the trade fair, the province hosted a “Run for Love” marathon, featuring 5km and 10km races designed to draw international visitors and promote local tourism products.

Minister Huot Hak emphasised that tourism remains a cornerstone of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy. He noted that the sector is vital for socio-economic development and poverty reduction, contributing significantly to the national GDP.

“Tourism is an interconnected sector that requires the ‘Single Actor’ approach,” the Minister stated, calling for seamless cooperation between the public and private sectors. He urged stakeholders to maintain Cambodia’s reputation as a “safe, warm, clean, and green” destination to ensure high competitive advantage in the region.

With the coastal region already attracting millions of visitors annually, the Royal Government is focusing on sustainable and responsible growth. The current administration aims to leverage these international arrivals to propel Cambodia toward its long-term goal of becoming a high-income country by 2050.

The exhibition continues through the week, featuring local cultural performances and trade displays intended to catalyse investment in the country’s burgeoning hospitality and maritime industries.
