Cambodia is committed to support more women’s participation in peace and reconciliation whenever opportunities arise.
The commitment was highlighted by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs in her speech last weekend on” Women Leaders, First Ladies, Korean Reunification” at the World Summit 2022 under the theme “Toward Peace in the Korean Peninsula” in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.
Addressing the leaders and distinguished guests physically and virtually from all over the world, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi underlined Cambodia’s effort, including women’s engagement, under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to secure complete peace which is a foundation for sustainable development.
According to the minister, since 2006, Cambodia has deployed 7,826 peacekeepers to join in UN peacekeeping operations in war torn countries, 458 of them are women.
Cambodia is proud of being ranked 13th among the 122 nations in terms of dispatching women peacekeepers under UN mission, she said.
Cambodia is committed to increase the number of women in both peacekeeping missions and security services, added H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi.
