Takhmao-Koh Thom NR21 Officially Inaugurated

The National Road No. 21, stretching over nearly 64 kilometres, connecting the Takhmao roundabout in Takhmao town to the Cambodia-Vietnam border (Chrey Thom – Long Binh) was put into official use this morning after the construction was completed in 2019.

The inauguration ceremony of NR21, held in Kandal province, was presided over by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Park Heung-kyeong.

Costing some US$61 million, a concessional loan from the Government of the Republic of Korea and an additional budget from the Royal Government of Cambodia, the NR21 construction was divided into two phases – the first one of 55 kilometres long is from Takhmao roundabout to Prek Speu commune of Koh Thom district, while the second is 8.6 kilometres long from Prek Speu commune to Chrey Thom bridge.

Built by South Korean company, HANSHIN Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. and technically inspected by DASAN Consultants Co., Ltd., the NR21 was upgraded from DBST to AC road and expanded from 2 lanes to 4 lanes at some important geographical points.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, NR21 is a strategic road connecting Phnom Penh to other road networks such as NR2, Second Ring Road, Third Ring Road, NR21A and NR21B towards the Cambodia-Vietnam border gate (Chrey Thom-Long Binh).

These road connections have been playing an important role in facilitating all kinds of transport, especially of goods and agricultural products for trade between Cambodia and Vietnam, as well as promoting and transforming the border area into a development zone.
