NEC Welcomes Election-Related Complaints with Evidence

National Election Committee (NEC) is open for complaints related to the June 5 Commune/Sangkat Council Election, but encouraged they are filed with concrete evidence.

NEC Deputy Secretary General and Spokesperson H.E. Som Sorida reaffirmed the committee’s stand in a recent interview with AKP.

The complaints could be about election results, irregularities during the poll and beyond, he said.

Political parties can file the complaints either to the capital or provincial election committee or directly to the NEC at the national level.

NEC will review the complaints files and proceed with the hearing of those supported with concrete evidence, he explained.

However, he continued, until a hearing of any dissatisfaction or complaint is carried out and a lawful result was ruled, those complaint does not affect the on-going work of NEC.

The 5th Commune/Sangkat Council Election was participated by 7.38 million eligible voters or 80.19 percent of the registered voters.

Seventeen political parties joined the democratic race for 1,652 communes/Sangkats across the country.

National and international observers such as CDI, AIPA, IPTP, ICAPP, IO (Independent Observers), Think Tank 2022, and CAPDI have issued their statements supporting the smooth and peaceful process of the election.
