Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has spoken highly of the activities of Sasakawa Foundation in Cambodia and in other countries.
The Premier made the appreciation while receiving a courtesy visit from Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Personal Assistant to the Cambodian Prime Minister.
On the occasion, Mr. Yohei Sasakawa informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen of the activities of Sasakawa Foundation, which is part of The Nippon Foundation.
He said in Cambodia, the Sasakawa Foundation has been working on the establishment of schools to train students how to make artificial limbs for about 30 years, and so far, 28 countries have sent trainees to study in Cambodia.
Moreover, he continued, the foundation teaches English to students in rural areas, and some 25,000 students have obtained scholarships from the foundation to study in Phnom Penh and abroad.
Mr. Yohei Sasakawa added that the Sasakawa Foundation also contributed with the Cambodian Ministry of Health to combat leprosy, stressing that almost no new case of leprosy is now found in the Kingdom.
The humanitarian activities of The Nippon Foundation in Myanmar were also raised during the courtesy meeting.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his satisfaction with the progress in the activities of Sasakawa Foundation for the benefits of not only the Cambodian people, but also those of other countries in terms of artificial limbs.
The Prime Minister thanked the Sasakawa Foundation for its assistance to Cambodia in the fields of education and health, especially in combating leprosy, and lauded its humanitarian assistance to women and children in Myanmar.
