Education Minister Wins World Literacy Foundation Award 2023


H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, has won the World Literacy Foundation Award 2023.

The award was presented to H.E. Hang Chuon Naron on April 4 in recognition of his outstanding effort in promoting literacy learning and education.

The recognition indicates the success for all education staff of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as well as for the Cambodia’s whole education sector.

It also reflected a positive way to implement the ministry’s education reform to promote the quality of education as well as capacity building of teachers and students, and elimination of illiteracy.

In 2020, literacy rate for people aged from 15 years old up was 87.8 percent, rising from 77.6 percent in 2008.

The World Literacy Foundation Award recognises individuals and organisations annually for their outstanding endeavour to promote literacy learning.
