PM Keeps Calling Medical Practitioners to Adhere to Professional Code of Ethics and Medical Skills

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his appreciation for the progress of medical sector in the Kingdom, but kept appealing to the medical practitioners to adhere to professional code of ethics and medical skill improvement.

While presiding over the inauguration ceremony of a maternity ward building at the National Pediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the professional code of ethics and capacity building are the main key for the future progress of Cambodia’s medical sector.

“We really regret some incidents, such as a recent case involving a midwife who lacks skills and caused the death of a woman. We cannot blame all medical practitioners for this single case; however, I urge for the strengthening of professional code of ethics and technical capacity building,” he stressed.

“I’d like to call on our medical practitioners known to be the White Shirt Army in the fight against COVID-19 to further strengthen the medical ethics and technical capacity as both must go in parallel,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said. “It is useless to have skills without the code of ethics.”

Samdech Techo Prime Minister further explained that there are a lot of technicians in the world, but some use their skills to produce illicit drugs, while some others to produce nuclear weapons, so it is dangerous to have technicians without the code of ethics.
