ASEAN Leaders Adopt Numerous Documents during Two-day Summit


The 42nd ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings held on May 10-11, 2023 in Labuan Bajo under the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth” have adopted numerous documents, according to the TVK’s special correspondent.

The summit was chaired by Indonesian President H.E. Joko Widodo with the participation of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and other ASEAN Heads of State/Government as well as Timor-Leste Prime Minister H.E. Taur Matan Ruak.

The ASEAN Leaders have deliberated the ways and means to sustain the momentum of the ASEAN Community-building, advance the ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda to realise an inclusive, participatory, and collaborative Community, and accelerate the development of the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision to make the ASEAN a future-oriented Community for a peaceful, stable, secure, prosperous and resilient region.

The adopted documents include the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the Recent Attack on a Convoy of the AHA Centre and ASEAN Monitoring Team in Myanmar,  ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the Development of the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on Strengthening ASEAN’s Capacity and Institutional Effectiveness, and the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Combating Trafficking in Persons Caused by The Abuse of Technology among others.

They also discussed and approved the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Developing Regional Electric Vehicle Ecosystem, ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Advancing Regional Payment Connectivity and Promoting Local Currency Transaction, the ASEAN Declaration on The Placement and Protection of Migrant Fishers, the ASEAN Declaration on The Protection of Migrant Workers and Family Members in Crisis Situations, the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on One Health Initiative, and the ASEAN Leaders Joint Statement on The Establishment of an ASEAN Villages Network.

This morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his ASEAN counterparts attended the ASEAN Retreat Summit before returning home.
