Cabinet Ministers Approve Two Important Draft Laws


The weekly cabinet meeting, held here this morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, endorsed two key draft laws to improve public services and boost trade.

According to H.E. Phay Siphan, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit, the first approved document is the draft law on Civil Registration, Vital Statistics and Identification while the second is the draft law on the Rules of Origin.

The main purpose of the first draft law is to ensure clear rules and procedures related to civil registration, identification, residence registration to further strengthen the protection of people’s rights and improve the quality of service provision.

The second draft law is aimed to determine the principles and rules on origin of exported and imported goods; promote and facilitate trade that benefits from trade preferences and non-trade preferences practices; and participate in preventing counterfeiting of goods origin.

The cabinet meeting also discussed the report of the Meeting of Inter-ministerial Commission on Study and Implementation of Tonle Bassac Navigation and Logistics System Project.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister recommended further study on the environmental impacts caused by seawater, and continued discussions with the Joint Committee of the Mekong River Commission.
