PM Shares Some Insights over Cambodian Historical Records

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presided over here at the Ministry of National Defence the commemoration of the 46th Anniversary of the Remembrance Day of “Journey to Overthrow Pol Pot Genocidal Regime” (June 20, 1977 – June 20, 2023).

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared his insights over the country’s historical records in the past 46 years.

“June 20, 1977 is the day I put my head and life for the cause of national liberation, peace and development in Cambodia […],” he said.  Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that all should remember that June 20, 1977 is the first step of the national liberation from genocide.  The Premier also agreed with the requests of Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, on Memorial Park construction project in the provinces following the style of Win-Win Memorial in Phnom Penh as well as on the sub-decree on the organisation of military historical sites.

For the proposal on military history draft law, Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised the Ministry of National Defence to conduct a thorough study with legal officers.

On June 20, 1977, at the age of 25 years old, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, along with four comrades, fled Cambodia to Vietnam through Tonloung commune, Memut district, Kampong Cham province (currently Thbong Khmum province), to form a movement to liberate Cambodia and its people. In 1978, Samdech Techo Hun Sen became a founding member of the United Front for the National Salvation of Kampuchea (UFNSK).

In collaboration with other patriotic movements and with the support of Vietnamese volunteer forces, on Jan. 7, 1979, the UFNSK rescued Cambodia and its people from the genocidal regime of Democratic Kampuchea.
