Australia Reaffirms Commitment to Tightening Relationship with Cambodia

The Government of Australia has reaffirmed its firm commitment to working with Cambodia as well as Southeast Asia to strengthen and expand their relations and cooperation for mutual benefits.

“We are committed to deepening our engagement with Cambodia and Southeast Asia as a priority,” said the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh.

“Australia has a long-standing friendship with Cambodia since the 1960s—our relationship achieved another significant milestone last year when we marked 70 years of diplomatic relations,” it stressed.

In a 56-second video clip of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, posted this morning on the embassy’s Facebook page, the Australian side said it will continue to work with the Southeast Asia partners to bolster government-to-government partnerships, increase official development assistance, upgrade economic and strategic relations, support enhancements on climate action, and support ASEAN and its institutions.

Exchange of more visits by senior ministers, mobilising more private sector finance for the region, and new scholarship opportunities will also be promoted, the source added.
