A Look Back at Canada’s Contribution to Cambodia’s Development

Cambodia cheered the 156th anniversary of Canada’s National Day and the 70th Anniversary of Cambodia-Canada Diplomatic Relations, highlighting the country’s crucial contribution to Cambodia’s development, including demining mission.

Representing the Royal Government of Cambodia, Senior Minister and First Vice President of Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) H.E. Ly Thuch joined the celebration of the anniversaries on July 4 at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, Phnom Penh.

Cambodia and Canada have built a long-standing friendship and close cooperation for nearly 70 years, and Canada has been among the key contributors to Cambodia’s peace building process and socio-economic development, said the senior minister.

Canada particularly supported Cambodia’s effort to foster trade, investment, vocational training, and other humanitarian activities.

On behalf of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen who is also CMAA President, H.E. Ly Thuch thanked Canada for its assistance for Cambodia’s demining mission that saves lives, reduces accidents and deaths of landmine, and transforms local livelihoods and access to public goods.

The Senior Minister strongly hoped that with continued assistance and contribution of Canada, along with other development partners, Cambodia will achieve its target of becoming a mine-free country by 2025.
