Cambodian PM Attends First High-level Meeting of Forum on Global Action for Shared Development

The Caretaker Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, attended the First High-level Meeting of Forum on Global Action for Shared Development via video conference on July 9-10, 2023.

In his remarks delivered this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen congratulated the Government of China for organising this event after the world is recovering from the COVID-19 crisis, yet the global economic situation and development continues to face increasingly more complex and acute economic, social, and environmental issues.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said we have vividly witnessed the active participation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) through promoting regional integration and multilateralism, especially the “Global Development Initiative (GDI)”, and “Global Security Initiative (GSI)” put forward by H.E. Xi Jinping, President of PRC, which have become a major driving force for supporting developing countries in the recovery of socio-economic development and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In the current global context with the tendency becoming multipolar, he said, enhancing mutually complementary supports for development is indeed necessary and indispensable, particularly through introducing practical actions on human capital development, narrowing digital gap, strengthening regional and global supply and production chains, promoting direct investments, building infrastructure, developing financial sector, green economy and climate resilience as well as providing financial support in order to address challenges and harness opportunities in each country.

“At the same time, I am of the view that we should have a joint framework, focusing on the detailed strategies and cooperation mechanism, especially on the preparation of action plans and financing for priority projects to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives,” he added.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued that under bilateral framework, Cambodia and China have strived to heighten cooperation to the level of “Diamond Cooperation” and have issued the “Joint Statement on Building a Cambodia-China Community with Shared Future in the New Era (2024-2028)”.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister also expressed his belief that the advancement of Cambodia-China cooperation will complement other initiatives for global development in a more effective manner.

This forum attracted high-level delegations from 27 countries and more than 20 UN agencies and international non-governmental organisations.
