Helping the Most Impoverished, the Priority of PM Hun Manet

A recent opinion piece titled ‘Helping the most impoverished is the priority of H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet’ highlighted pro-poor characteristics as the core of the government led by the Prime Minister’s Pentagonal Strategy.

Newly appointed Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Jean-François Tain authored the article.

In a nutshell, he said, one can say that the current key accomplishments (sovereign and independent Cambodia, Cambodia in the regional and global integration, peace, lifting millions of Cambodians out of poverty if compared to the situation 25 years ago, etc.) were obtained through the implementation of the Triangle Strategy, the Rectangular Strategy, as well as the Win-Win Policy of Samdech Techo Hun Sen. In this connection, the Pentagonal Strategy is the third “code”, in both principle and theory, leading Cambodia to a new stage of nation building.

He noted that Phase 1 of the Pentagonal Strategy is what the “new generation, new blood, and new energy” government under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Hun Manet will be carried out over a five- to seven-year period, with a significant emphasis on Cambodia’s poorest citizens.

The Royal Government of Cambodia will make every effort under the strategic guidance to promote economic growth, generate more jobs, promote social equity, and strengthen the quality of education and health care, particularly in remote rural areas.

These, according to the minister delegate, embody H.E. Dr. Hun Manet’s government’s societal policies.

Despite an uncertain global and regional economic scenario, H.E. Dr. Hun Manet has set a lofty aim of reducing Cambodian poverty to less than 10 percent through the implementation of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1.

H.E. Dr. Hun Manet, as the head of the 7th mandate Royal Government of Cambodia, has also demonstrated his strong will to alleviate economic and social inequalities through a strengthened social protection system, he added.

According to H.E. Jean-François Tain, the Pentagonal Strategy will be implemented in five stages, with the ultimate goal of transforming Cambodia into a high-income nation by 2050.
