Phnom Penh Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng on Sept. 11 led a Cambodian delegation to attend a virtual meeting organised by the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF).
Chaired by Ms. Anne Hidalgo, AIMF President, the meeting discussed emergency assistance for Oukaimeden City, an AIMF’s member, in Morocco, recently hit by a devastating earthquake that killed over 2,000 people and injured many, let alone other destruction.
The meeting also discussed which country will host the next AIMF annual conference.
In May 2023, the AIMF delegation visited Phnom Penh and broke ground and inaugurated achievements made possible through Phnom Penh’s membership in the association.
The achievements included a fecal sludge treatment plant and support infrastructure in Sangkat Pleung Chheh Roteh in Khan Kambol and an AIMF community in Khan Meanchey.
Established in 1979, AIMF aims to promote the exchange of experience, mutual development support, and emergency assistance.
The association currently has 307 member cities from 52 countries, home to around 130 million peoples.
