Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, and his spouse led a high-level delegation to New York to attend the General Debate of the 78th UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) at the UN headquarters.
The delegation was seen off at Phnom Penh International Airport this morning by many senior government officials.
During the UNGA 78, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will share his perspective on how to confront the global poly-crisis, and find strategies to accelerate action on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In a public speech recently, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said besides the UNGA 78, he will meet with some American businessmen and some senior officials as well as hold a get-together with the Cambodian nationals living and working in the U.S.
This is the first ever trip of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to the U.S. and the UN after he became the Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia since Aug. 22, 2023.
As scheduled, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet will arrive back home on Sept. 25, 2023.
Cambodia became a member state of the UN in 1955. Prior to that, in 1951, Cambodia became a member of UNESCO and immediately established its own National Commission. In 1952, UN Assistance to the country began with UNICEF, followed by WHO and UNDP’s predecessor, the Expanded Programme for Technical Assistance which became UNDP in 1965.
