A Transit and Reception Centre for Victims of Trafficking and Other Vulnerable Groups in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province, built under the financial support of the Thai government, has been put into official use and handed over to Cambodia.
The handover ceremony took place here at the Peace Palace this morning under the presidency of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and his Thai counterpart H.E. Srettha Thavisin.
The Transit and Reception Centre for Victims of Trafficking and Other Vulnerable Groups was broken ground on Aug. 15, 2022, and the construction was completed on Aug. 17, 2023 at a total cost of almost US$2,2 million, according to H.E. Em Chan Makara, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation.
Located in East Prachea Thorm village, Sangkat O’ Russey, Poipet city on total land area of 4,900 square metre, the spokesperson pointed out, the centre is aimed to provide services such as temporary accommodation, meals, health care, education, vocational training, and life skills for victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups in a safe and non-discriminatory environment.
