Cambodia, Germany to Promote Trade and Investment Cooperation


Cambodia and Germany have discussed the promotion of trade and investment cooperation, attracting more German investors to step in Cambodia.

The discussion was held here on Oct. 16 between H.E Ms. Tekreth Kamrang, Cambodian Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, and Dr. Jan Cernicky (Pic. 2), Head of the Economy and Innovation Department of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) of Germany.

In the meeting, Mr. Jan Cernicky said that the German Chamber of Commerce is interested in establishing a trade liaison in Cambodia and sought understanding on business and investment opportunities in Cambodia.

H.E. Ms. Tekreth Kamrang expressed her support for KAS’s project, adding that the ministry is ready to promote closer cooperation with trading partners from other countries, especially Germany.

She encouraged the German business community to explore the possibility of expanding business and investment in Cambodia.

The Cambodian commerce state secretary also informed her guest of the progress of Cambodian macroeconomy, trade and the priority policies of the 7th-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia, including human resource development, economic diversification and competitiveness, private sector and employment development, sustainable and inclusive development, and digital economic and social development.

Both also discussed a number of key issues, including Cambodia’s readiness to graduate from the status of least developed country (LDC), Cambodia’s logistics development plan, and the progress of the Kingdom’s green and digital economy implementation.

The trade volume between Cambodia and Germany reached about US$1,246 million in 2022, an increase of about 19.25 percent compared to 2021.

Cambodia exports major commodities to Germany, such as clothing, bicycles, footwear, agricultural products and electrical appliances.
