Cambodia Will Not Give Up Agriculture


Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet confirmed here this morning that the kingdom will not give up agricultural sector.

Addressing at the official launching ceremony for the implementation of the 5th and 6th Priority Policy Programmes of the Royal Government, 7th Legislature of the National Assembly, Samdech Hun Manet said agriculture remains the main drive for national economic growth.

“Although we are focusing on promoting the diversification and enhancement on the services, industries and digital, but we cannot abandon agriculture”, he underlined.

“As long as people continue to eat, agriculture remains a top priority”, he said “People can stop traveling, stop buying a new car or mobile phone, but people cannot stop eating”.

Regarding to the 5th and 6th Priority Policy Programmes of the Royal Government, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said this policy has been put into action to boost our agricultural potential.

“We do not abandon agricultural sector, but we also put in place additional policies to strengthen our agricultural potential. That is, how to make our farmers get more benefit from agriculture”, he said.

By early November this year, Cambodia has grown in total some 3.6 million hectares of rice and exported 6,2 million tonnes in total of agricultural products worth US$ 3.5 billion to 74 countries, said Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Dith Tina.
