Cambodia and Cuba have vowed to further tighten their bilateral relations and cooperation.
This was the spirit of the meeting between H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during his fruitful talks here on Nov. 22 with H.E. Ms. Liurka Rodríguez Barrios, Ambassador of Cuba to Cambodia.
According to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public this afternoon, during the talks, both sides recalled the significance of historic visits by Cuban and Cambodian leaders to each other’s countries, which have strengthened and deepened bilateral ties.
The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to implement existing agreements in areas of mutual interest including agriculture, health, trade, investment and sports.
Referring to Cambodia’s history in recent decades, H.E. the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for Cuba’s constant support during hardships after the collapse of the Khmer Rouge regime. Considering Cambodia a good friend, H.E. Ambassador expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government for joining with the international community in calling for an end to sanctions against Cuba.
H.E. Sok Chenada Sophea and H.E. Ms. Liurka Rodríguez Barrios shared common views on the need to do more for the development and prosperity of Cambodia and Cuba, noting the significance of the forthcoming Third Round of Bilateral Consultations between the two foreign ministries in 2024.
