Ministry of Environment Launches Green Destination Target Project for Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Cambodia

The Ministry of Environment has launched Green Destination Target Project for Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, told Dr. Thuon Sinan, President of the Asia-Pacific Tourism Association of Cambodia (PATA), in their meeting at the ministry on Feb. 12.

According to H.E. Minister, the Green Destination Target project will enable communities to become entrepreneurial, fostering both economic prosperity and beauty across various areas. It aims to empower communities to generate regular income by offering ecotourism services, accommodations, local transportation, and selling local products to tourists.

This initiative promotes community ownership, independence, and participation, fostering harmony within the community.

Dr. Thuon Sinan presented a project seeking support for the establishment of a meditation centre on Stung Popok in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province, to promote ecotourism, tourism, religion, and nature, thereby contributing to local economic development and enhancing the protection and conservation of Cambodia’s natural resources, aligning with the Ministry of Environment’s strategy.

H.E. Minister Eang Sophalleth emphasised the importance of improving community livelihoods and providing benefits to locals, consistent with principles for managing and developing protected areas outlined in the Environmental Strategy 2023-2028. He urged fostering entrepreneurial spirit among local communities, underlining that innovative ideas emerging from this entrepreneurship would distinguish communities from one another.

Furthermore, H.E. Eang Sophalleth stressed the Ministry of Environment’s priority of cleanliness, greenness, and sustainability, aiming to ensure Cambodia’s cleanliness and environmental health. He highlighted the significance of promoting cleanliness both externally and internally within communities, including selling agricultural products to tourists at fair prices, even during festive seasons, and prioritising consumer health.
