Samdech Techo Hun Sen Wants Cambodia-Thailand Relationship to be Elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership


Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia, has expressed his intention to see the relations between Cambodia and Thailand be upgraded from a Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the future.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, current President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King and President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), made the remarks while receiving visiting H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the January 7 Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also encouraged both countries to further foster their cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, labour and tourism. He thanked the Thai government for its attention to Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand.

The former Prime Minister stressed the need to boost the regional cooperation, especially in the ASEAN, ACMECS and GMS frameworks for the interest of the two countries.

For his part, H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha lauded the good relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand as neighbours and reaffirmed Thailand’s attention to the Cambodian people working and doing business in the country.

H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha and his high-level delegation arrived in Phnom Penh on Mar. 21 for a three-day official and friendly visit, at the invitation of Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia. During his stay, besides Samdech Techo Hun Sen, H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha has held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Kitti Setha Pundit Cheam Yeap, Acting President of the Cambodian National Assembly, and paid a courtesy visit to Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, Acting Head of State. He also attended the 8th Ramadan Iftar Dinner of Cambodian Muslims, held on the evening of Mar. 21 under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
