NA President Appreciates Canada’s Role in Cambodia’s Development

The President of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) appreciates Canada’s contribution to Cambodia’s development and proposes further cooperation.

Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary highlighted the appreciation in a courtesy meeting with newly appointed Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ping M. Kitnikone on May 13 at the NA Palace.

The diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and Canada dates back to 1952, and the latter accepted Cambodian refugees who fled the country due to the civil war.

As of now, according to Samdech Khuon Sudary, some 400,000 Cambodian-Canadians are living in Canada.

Canada has also played an important role in contributing to the process of peacebuilding, national restoration, and socio-economic development in Cambodia through both technical and financial support, she added.

The NA president continued that Cambodia highly values bilateral and multilateral cooperation in promoting a multilateral system and safeguarding peace and stability for people across the world.

She therefore encouraged the Canadian ambassador to further boost the relationship with Cambodia through the pathway.

Samdech Khuon Sudary also asked the ambassador to consider supporting Cambodia to achieve landmine-free status by 2025.
