Cambodia to Host 16th AIPA Caucus in 2025

Cambodia will host the 16th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus in June next year, according to a news release of the General Secretariat of Cambodian National Assembly (NA).

The hosting was accepted the Cambodian Parliament during the AIPA Executive Committee Meeting, held in Vientiane, Lao PDR this morning under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the Lao NA and President of AIPA-45, to review and approve the agendas for the 45th General Assembly of AIPA (AIPA-45) and discuss future activities.

On the occasion, Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the Cambodian NA, extended an invitation to AIPA members to attend the AIPA Caucus in Cambodia in mid-June next year, underscoring her support for the AIPA General Assembly as a vital regional parliamentary forum for promoting diplomacy, cooperation, and sustainable development.

At the same time, the meeting approved the Malaysian Parliament to host the 46th AIPA-46 General Assembly in 2025 and the Philippine Parliament to host the 47th AIPA General Assembly in 2026.

During the meeting, the Executive Committee reviewed the AIPA Annual Report 2023-2024 and adopted the agenda for the AIPA-45 General Assembly.

The Executive Committee also discussed several proposals, including the organisation of the AIPA Speakers Summit, establishing a suitable mechanism to address the issue of Myanmar, forming a study committee to transform the AIPA Advisory Council on Dangerous Drugs into the AIPA Advisory Council on Transnational Crime, and creating a Working Group on Capacity Development for AIPA and its member parliaments.

The AIPA-45 General Assembly is currently hosted by the Lao NA from Oct. 17 to 23 under the theme “The Role of Parliament in Enhancing Connectivity and Inclusive Growth of ASEAN.”
