Cambodia, Japan Reaffirm Commitment to Promote Existing Partnership


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea on Oct. 21 held a productive telephone conversation with H.E. IWAYA Takeshi, the newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

During the call, H.E. the Deputy Prime Minister renewed his congratulations on H.E. IWAYA Takeshi’s appointment, according to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The two Ministers engaged in a wide-ranging discussion on bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the enduring friendly relationship and multifaceted cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their shared resolve to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled Japan’s significant contribution to Cambodia’s peace and reconstruction process and expressed gratitude to Japan for continuous assistance in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

H.E. IWAYA Takeshi expressed his commitment to further promote the existing excellent cooperation including in trade and investment, education, health, defence and security, demining, and connectivity.

The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
