Cambodian, Vietnamese Legislative Leaders Laud Both Countries’ Relations and Cooperation

Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, has held bilateral talks with the Honourable Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam.

The talks followed his arrival Thursday on a four-day visit to attend the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) and the 12th International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) as well as inaugurating a new administrative building at the National Assembly.

Samdech Khuon Sudary said the new building was a symbol of the long-term solidarity and friendship between the two countries, based on heart-to-heart relations and people-to-people ties.

She sincerely thanked the Party, State, and people of Viet Nam for their valuable support. She also thanked Vietnamese authorities for coordinating a Kathina procession to Wat Po Kiri Vongsaram, also known as Wat Svay Siam Thmey, in the Vietnamese province of Tra Vinh earlier this month. She expressed appreciation for the preservation of the culture and traditions of Khmer people living in Viet Nam and hoped that such support will strengthen in the future.

Chairman Man expressed his heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to his delegation during his first official visit to Cambodia as National Assembly Chairman. He emphasised the significance of the visit in strengthening bilateral ties.

The Vietnamese parliamentary leader conveyed greetings from Communist Party of Viet Nam General Secretary To Lam and State President Luong Cuong,

Chairman Man expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s unwavering policy of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term cooperation towards Viet Nam. He highlighted Viet Nam’s commitment to supporting Cambodia’s development and sustainability efforts, aiming to contribute to national security and ensuring a stable and prosperous future for both countries.

He also thanked Cambodia for condolences sent in the wake of Typhoon Yagi, and expressed special gratitude for its donation of US$50,000 in assistance, underscoring the strong bonds and mutual support between the two nations.

The Vietnamese parliamentary leader outlined Viet Nam’s goal to achieve high-income status by 2045 as part of its broader vision for sustainable growth and development, which will benefit not only Viet Nam but also its regional partners, including Cambodia.

Samdech Khuon Sudary emphasised that Viet Nam’s success is Cambodia’s success, and that Cambodia’s success is Viet Nam’s success. She noted that the two countries were increasingly intertwined, with strong bilateral relations contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Mekong region as well as to building the ASEAN Community.

She said the friendship between the two countries was growing and resilient, unshaken by changes at national, regional, or international levels.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to nurturing and strengthening our ties to meet the aspirations of our people,” she said. “This cooperation extends beyond political and strategic trust. It is reflected in our growing economic partnerships, deepening defence and security cooperation, and the strengthening of our people-to-people ties.”

Chairman Man said he looked forward to continued exchanges of visits and stronger collaboration in various fields. This includes building, reviewing, and monitoring through parliamentary friendship groups, women parliamentarians and young parliamentarians to gain more experience in bilateral collaboration.

The Vietnamese parliamentary leader extended an invitation to Samdech Khuon Sudary to attend a Francophonie event hosted by Viet Nam in January, noting that Cambodia would be hosting the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026.
