Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Vice President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and President of the 12th General Assembly of International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) said his political party will put all efforts to defend peace, sovereignty, territorial integrity and development in Cambodia.
In his keynote remarks at the opening ceremony of the 12th ICAPP General Assembly held at the January 7 Palace here this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, the current Prime Minister of Cambodia, said being a past victim of the intoxicated political behaviours and international relations, CPP will stand resolute in defending peace, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development.
To sustain peace and nurture an environment of reconciliation, building unity through fostering common understanding is more crucial than ever on the key issues of underpinning peace and reconciliation under the principles and purpose of the UN Charter, with a strong emphasis on non-interference, sovereignty, equality, and mutual respect, he added.
Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister mentioned that the foundation of peace built upon the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter since the end of the WWII is being tested to the limit by intense rivalry. Today, we are living in an atmosphere of great uncertainty, with great powers challenging the rule based international order, but world affairs and global governance should not be all about great powers. It is important to recognise that middle powers and small states also possess the ambitions to play meaningful roles in geopolitical and geoeconomic diplomacy to foster peace and around the world.
“Cambodia is certainly one of them. We are keen to contribute to the building of a global community bound together by peace, prosperity, and inclusive multilateralism. In this regard, the 12th ICAPP General Assembly will energise our dialogue on this important topic of peace and reconciliation,” he underlined.
ICAPP is well respected for its role as a bridge for political and ideological divide. In a context of a growing, diverse global politics, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister believed that ICAPP will continue to serve as an important channel for political parties to come together under one roof for dialogues and cooperation across our diverse regions.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia’s journey is a powerful testament to the transformative pack of national reconciliation, decades of conflicts.
Peace can only be achieved through peaceful settlement of conflicts based on dialogue, consultations, and a Win-Win approach, he stressed.
