H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism met here on Feb. 3 with Mr. Sardar Umar Alam, UNESCO Representative to Cambodia and his colleagues to discuss cooperation in Cambodia’s tourism sector.
The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation in Cambodia’s tourism sector by integrating heritage sites with sustainable development that connects nature, existing heritage, natural areas, and various creative cities.
UNESCO has extended support for sustainable tourism initiatives in Cambodia in 2022, including the ‘Promoting sustainable tourism and private sector engagement for inclusive community development in response to the COVID-19 crisis’.
The project was developed by UNESCO thanks to support provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The project aimed to address some of the immediate socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 on tourism and heritage and was implemented across seven countries and ten World Heritage communities.
