Cambodia To Tighten Wastewater Control at All Factories

Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has directed local authorities to strengthen oversight of wastewater management at all factories nationwide, to safeguard public health and environmental safety.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a wastewater treatment system development project in Takhmao city, Kandal province this morning, Samdech Thipadei emphasised that all industrial wastewater must be properly treated before being discharged into rivers.

“Proper wastewater treatment is crucial. If mismanaged, it will directly impact people’s well-being,” he stated.

The Premier instructed the Municipal and Provincial Departments of Environment, along with other relevant authorities, to conduct regular inspections and take firm action against factories or enterprises that violate wastewater standards.

“Any factory found discharging untreated or contaminated water must be temporarily suspended until the issue is fully resolved. We cannot allow health risks to our people,” Samdech Thipadei stressed.
