Senate President: Cambodia to Seek ICRC Assistance for 18 Soldiers Still in Thai Custody

Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced that Cambodia will seek the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help repatriate 18 Cambodian soldiers who remain in Thai custody.

“While most of you are asleep, I and several colleagues are monitoring the situation via the video system alongside Samdech Tea Banh and Army Commander Mao Sophan, following the departure of H.E. Commander-in-Chief (of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces), General Vong Pisen, who is heading to Malaysia for a meeting tomorrow morning (Aug. 4),” he wrote on his official social media platform last night.

Meanwhile, at a separate command centre, Prime Minister Hun Manet and his team are actively working to contact the ICRC to assist in securing the return of the 18 soldiers, who were captured by Thailand after the ceasefire took effect and have not yet been repatriated.

“Tonight, my wife and I also spoke with some frontline commanders, who are strictly adhering to the ceasefire and remain on high alert for any potential violations by the other side,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen added.
