Kampong Speu province is in need of more than 60,000 workers to meet the growing labour demand in its expanding industrial sector, according to Governor Dr. Cheam Chansophorn.
The governor made the announcement during a get-together this morning with Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand.
During the event in Borseth district, he distributed food and essential supplies to the workers and their families.
Governor Chansophorn expressed his appreciation for the workers’ safe return, emphasising that their presence offers an important opportunity to contribute to the nation’s workforce at a time when Cambodia is experiencing labour shortages. He noted that reintegrating into local communities allows workers to remain close to their children, who can continue their education in a stable environment without having to follow their parents abroad.
To help returning workers find jobs, the governor urged district and city authorities to collaborate with the Provincial Department of Labour and Vocational Training.
The goal is to compile and share up-to-date information on job vacancies, ensuring that returning workers can easily access opportunities that match their skills.
Under the current Royal Government’s leadership, Kampong Speu has seen significant economic growth. The province now hosts approximately 1,458 factories and enterprises, which employ nearly 300,000 workers. However, to keep up with the ongoing expansion, the province still needs more than 60,000 additional workers.
To support returning migrants and their families, the governor also instructed the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports, to facilitate school transfers for their children. For young people who have dropped out or completed their education, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training offers free vocational training and accommodation.
Additionally, students from low-income families are eligible for a monthly stipend of 280,000 Riel (roughly US$70) to support their studies. The Ministry and provincial authorities also assist all trainees with job placement after graduation.
